A few nights ago I went and saw Linton Kwesi Johnson do a poetry reading. LKJ is a famous 'dub poet' who was born in Jamaica but raised in South London. In between his very personal and political poems (he was in Brixton during the race riots of 1981), he told some history of the Black struggle for equality in England. One of the amazing voices I've ever heard. I got goosebumps. You could really feel it.
